The UUCSH Accessibility project is proceeding nicely.  The crews are working on some of the finishing touches already.

For example, the shutters were installed on the addition last week.

The new rooms in Fellowship Hall are almost completed; they just need some trim and outlet covers.  The doors were re-used from the minister’s and DLFD’s offices.  Volunteers will be working this week to get them ready for Sunday School classes on January 18. There is a fair amount of construction dust that needs to be cleaned off.

Here’s what will be the 1st-3rd grade classroom:Classroom with door, Fellowship HallDuring the last week, the construction crews also:
-Restored power to the front of the sanctuary;
-Poured the concrete slab for the new stairs;
-Completed most of the electrical “rough-in” and started the plumbing rough-ins in the addition;
-“Sistered” the beams for the 3rd floor ceiling to provide needed support.

What does this mean for activities at UUCSH?
Nursery:  We are delighted that we will once again be able to provide nursery care for children under age 3 starting January 18.  The new nursery room is the first room on the right in Fellowship Hall.
Sunday School:  Enclosed classrooms and partitioned classrooms will be ready for Sunday, January 18.  Electrical outlets may not be usable.  Be sure to meet your child in his or her classroom after the Sunday service.
Coffee Hour:  Due to fire code regulations, we will not have Coffee Hour after Sunday services until at least February 1.  Stay tuned!
Rest rooms:  There are two restrooms on the first (Fellowship Hall) level.  One must use stairs to access them.
Parking:  Please save the spaces in the congregation’s side lot for those with special needs/mobility concerns.
Funding:  There are a few places where the project has gone over the budgeted amount, and we’ve faced unanticipated expenses of replacing the roof and the boiler.  As has been reported previously, the contingency for this project was exhausted before the project began.  Additional contributions toward capital projects–present and future–would be most appreciated. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
The Congregational Update Meeting on Sunday, January 25 at 11:30am will be largely devoted to the Access Project.  All members and friends are welcome to attend to learn more and ask questions.
