The big news for the week is that the elevator installation is complete!
Now, we will patiently (or not so patiently) await the inspection, whose timing is out of our control.  Thanks to the dedicated crew that installed the elevator.  They worked almost three weeks and took great care in making sure it was done just right.  Once the elevator passes inspection, we should be able to get a Certificate of Occupancy for the building.

If you were at the Sunday worship service on April 12,

you may have noticed the large window at the rear of the sanctuary (see photo at right).  The window is in a small room that will now provide a space for anyone needing to leave the sanctuary but who still wants to see and hear the worship service.

With the weather warming up, the crews were able to pave and patch certain areas of the parking lot.  The driveway was patched; the area along side the exit driveway was paved.  IMG_0093  That is where the new air conditioning units will be placed.  Note the bright yellow bollards to prevent cars from hitting the AC units.

Big thanks to Paul S. and our builder, Mike P., who took apart the front center pew in the sanctuary, and moved it up to the third floor storage area.  Not an easy feat!

The pew is over 13 feet long and quite heavy!!!  A smaller pew was put in its place (see photo at right).  There will now be room for at least two wheelchairs, one on either side of the smaller front pew.  This arrangement is in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act code.

Sturdy railings were also installed this week.  The shiny white

railings are extremely durable, and replace the temporary rails we had in place.  The railings leading to the attic are removable in case there is something particularly wide that needs to go up the stairs.

We are planning a MOVING AND CLEANING DAY for Saturday, April 25 from 10am – 4pm.  More details will be coming in the next few days.  Please mark your calendar to help out–even for an hour or two.  We will be moving furniture into the new offices, cleaning the sanctuary and parts of Fellowship Hall, and (if we have enough volunteers) sprucing up the exterior by raking leaves.

Of course, the Building Dedication worship service is Sunday, May 3 at 2pm.  A light reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.  If you’re planning to attend, please RSVP to so we can plan for the right number of people.
