Children’s Chapel on Sunday June 19 had a lot going on! After cheering on the Girls on the Run 5K runners and walkers, the children got to share in similar fashion to the adults in the sanctuary on their favorite t-shirts they wore that day. While there was a variety of t-shirts worn, what they all had in common was that there were stories to go with those t-shirts. Stories about something the wearer liked, somewhere they had been, something they had accomplished, or something about what they value and believe.
One t-shirt that a lot of people wore on Tuesday June 14 was the Standing on the Side of Love t-shirt during the vigil for the Orlando massacre victims and their friends and family. Wearing those t-shirts was part of how people express their support. They also expressed their values through adding their names to letters to send to politicians asking for gun control legislation. Part of chapel included making more notes and cards to send to the people of Orlando FL.
We also began the summer curriculum, Miracles, by asking what is the definition of a miracle and reading examples of events and things and discussing if counts as a miracle or not. Children will continue to explore all different kinds of meanings and understandings of miracles in our lives throughout the summer chapels.
AND…there will be a special multi-generational service on Sunday July 3 where all ages can take part in the exploration of miracles! Stay tuned for more details!
