CJCC Anniversary Celebration & Action – One Year Together

Author Avianca Bouchedid, Written Dec 15, 2017

It’s now been one year since the Central Jersey Community Coalition (CJCC) was first created with our Day 1 event on January 21, 2017. Our Day 1 event and the CJCC was designed to educate, advocate, inspire and act. Now on February 3, 2018, we invite you to continue the fight for social justice.

The first half of the event will host local social justice organizations at tables to engage the public in necessary action.  The organizations include the Hunterdon County Anti-Racism Coalition, Citizens Climate Lobby, The Giving Network, Social Services in Somerset County, Empower Somerset, and the Somerset County Cultural Diversity Coalition.  We will also have a book signing with Dr. Karen Gaffney as she shares her newly published book “Dismantling The Racism Machine”.  In addition, we will have Hate Has No Home Here signs for sale.

The second half of the event will highlight the past year of CJCC actions and we will address where are we are one year later and what can we do now, with speakers including  Ali Chaudry (Islamic Society of Basking Ridge, the NJ Interfaith Coalition, and the Pledge to Stand Up for the Other),Mark Williams from North Plainfield Stigma-Free Zone and Councilwoman, Edina Brown will talk about her success running for office and how she made that happen. The Meta Theatre Company (a social justice theatre company located in Hunterdon County) will also perform an interactive piece. We hope to see there!
