Collections Ministry Requests Items for Homeless

Author Avianca Bouchedid, Written Nov 29, 2016

UUCSH will be collecting items for the homeless in Somerset County through 1/22/17.  Requested items include new hats, scarves, gloves or mittens, socks, underwear, tee shirts, sweatshirts/pants and new blankets or towels.   Donations will be given to people interviewed this coming January, when Somerset County participates in the annual Point In Time (PIT) survey.

The survey is part of a statewide effort to obtain an accurate snapshot of New Jersey’s homeless population in response to a directive from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The data is also used by county and local non-profit agencies when applying for grants to assist the homeless population.

The collection bin is in the foyer of UUCSH.  Questions may be directed to Nadine Kadell Sapirman,, or Michelle Edgar,
