December 14, 2014: Creation, Compassion and Chanukah
Led by Rev. Jennifer Kelleher
Music: UUCSH Adult Choir, Susan Schneider, and Will Magalio
Chanukah means “dedication”. The festival commemorates the battle between Jewish people led by the Maccabee family and foreign conquerors that were trying to take away their cultural practices and religious freedom. It is a holiday celebrating the dedication to their culture and their G-d. “The opposite of war isn’t peace, its creation,” writes playwright Jonathan Larson. Our service will explore the history of the Chanukah festival and lessons we might learn from that history as we strive to be creative and compassionate peoples of faith.
