Focus of Sabbatical: Congregational Innovation- “…and beyond…”

Author Sarah Ahrens, Written Jan 14, 2015

My sabbatical will focus on three areas:

  1. Congregational Innovation
  2. Professional Growth
  3. Personal Renewal

Congregational Innovation will be further divided into “Congregations” and “Beyond” as inspired by Rev. Peter Morales white paper by the same name: identifying ways to strengthen RE and AFD within the congregation, as well as how UUCSH can reach more effectively into the “beyond”  for those in our community throughout the lifespan.

“…and Beyond.”

  1. Missional Church

Contact UU communities engaged in “missional” ministries- such as The Welcome Table in Turley OK- and the urban church outreach of the Harrisburg PA congregation.  Bring back guiding principles of such missional ministries and how UUCSH can build on existing outreach into surrounding communities.  This is particularly relevant to our faith-in-action, “incarnational” growth opportunities

2.Young Adult

UUCSH has a desire to better reach out and support young adults in their 20s and 30s.  Contact UU communities that have specialized in ministries to and with young adults, learning their philosophies and best practices.  The Sanctuary in Boston is an example.

3. Campus Ministry

UUCSH has an opportunity to support ministry with college students through the ongoing development of Rutgers campus ministry.  Contact established UU campus ministries to learn their ministry model and apply to Rutgers.
