Follow up to a time for all ages 18OCT15- “A Cup of Light”

Author Sarah Ahrens, Written Oct 21, 2015

The time for all ages on October 18 explored what the symbol of the flaming chalice is all about.  What does the chalice represent?  What does the flame represent?  What do they represent when combined?
Rev. Jennifer later in service shared the origin story of the flaming chalice as a symbol used by the Unitarian Service Committee- now the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.

A copy of the book A Cup of Light is available on the table outside of my office and is worth picking up to have in your personal library- especially to read with children!
I noted some other links to chalice related history and background via the UUCSH facebook group.

Wondering questions we were left to ponder were:
What other symbols of Unitarianism, Universalism, Unitarian Universalism were there, are there, and might be?
Who gets to decide on the symbols and what they mean?

And in the spirit of the service that day, what legacy are we instilling into the flaming chalice symbol today, that honors and carries on the spirit of those who first embraced the flaming chalice?
