Follow up to time for all ages Sep 27- Side by Side/Lado a Lado

Author Sarah Ahrens, Written Oct 12, 2015

The time for all ages on Sep 27 was presented by Bob Conover and Janine Matton (with microphone holding assistance by Mr. B) who read the story Side By Side/Lado a Lado: the story of Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez by Monica Brown.

The picture book recounted the work of Dolores and Cesar to improve the working conditions of farm workers after they had faced so many years of unjust wages, living conditions, and overall treatment.

The worship service for that day was Mes de la Herencia Hispana: Invitación a celebrar, led by Yolanda, Janine Matton, Bob Conover, and Rev. Jennifer Kelleher, tying together the worship theme of what does it mean to be a people of invitation and Hispanic Heritage month.

In closing the time for all ages, I asked the audience to consider how what Dolores and Cesar did was consistent with our UU principles, even if they didn’t use the language of the principles, and how can we today, continue in the spirit of the work they did?
