On November 7, Rev. Jennifer Kelleher, Jim Phillips, Tom Davidson, and I, attended a community luncheon sponsored by the Somerville Community Association, hosted by the First United Methodist Church on High Street in Somerville.
It was a great opportunity to meet with representatives from other faith communities in Somerville, non-profit organizations, and members of local government.
The keynote speaker, Rev. Eric Dobson of the Fair Share Housing Center, was fantastic, speaking about some of New Jersey’s history of affordable housing efforts, their successes and setbacks, and dispelling myths that persist about the program to this day, exhorting those gathered to take action to that the program continues. You may have seen some of my tweets I posted of some of the presentation,
As a congregation in Somerville, I think it would be great to continue to have a presence in the Somerville Community Association, and participate with our fellow Somerville residents. While Somerville residents can become voting members of the SCA- YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT TO BECOME AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER. I registered that very day!
There is an event happening Thursday November 19, at 7 p.m.- will add location when I get info from flyer.
And the next monthly meeting of the SCA is Monday November 23, at 7 p.m. at the Shiloh Pentecostal church.
Like the SCA facebook page here.
Let’s continue to Stand on the Side of Love in Somerville- and join with others in our community to do the same!
