YUUR Voice in Trenton
By Rev. Craig Hirshberg, Executive Director
UU Legislative Ministry of NJ
Christmas came early for UULMNJ. We recently received grants of $19,500 plus a $2000 matching grant from the Unitarian Universalist Funding Program – Fund for Social Responsibility. The grant will be used to continue our administrative position, expand our internship possibilities and create electronic advocacy capability for UULMNJ. Thank you Santa!
Immigration continues to be a major focus for Unitarian Universalists. Our Immigration Task Force is launching a letter writing campaign to President Obama, encouraging him to more closely follow his own Administration’s immigration policies. We want to deliver these letters to him by Inauguration Day, January 21, 2013. We are also encouraging letters to our Governor to sign the minimum wage increase bill on his desk. For more information, See your UULMNJ liaison for more information or go to www.uulmnj.org.
Electronic Advocacy: The world is changing. It used to be that snail mail letter campaigns were more effective. Not anymore. Electronic advocacy is here to stay. The UULMNJ board recently signed a contract with SALSA. This will enable us to create campaigns, sign letters and petitions, and deliver them directly to federal, state and local political leaders based on the senders zip code. Expect implementation over the next few months.
CERG Hurricane Relief:
Just a reminder that CERG has raised $207,000 for hurricane relief in our UGU region. These funds are available to individuals as well as congregations who have experienced financial hardship due to the effects of storm Sandy. For more information, contact your minister or Andrea Lerner, NY Metro District Executive, mailto:email@example.com
As we enter this holiday season, the staff and board of UULMNJ wishes everyone the happiest of holidays. May peace and serenity find its place into your hearts and into your homes.
